Connecticut Children’s is committed to helping children reach their full potential. Our efforts to keep children well and thriving, known as “population health”, include:

  • strengthening families and communities through partnerships so they are best positioned to support children’s optimal health, development and well-being.
  • advancing initiatives that address the social determinants of health, such as healthy housing, food and nutrition, early literacy, and violence prevention, that are known to have a profound impact on child health and development.
  • helping community pediatricians and family practitioners provide the highest quality of care to children.
  • advancing equity in healthcare and beyond.
  • engaging all sectors, beyond child health services, that impact children’s outcomes.

Our Population Health Work Includes

Although we are known for our state-of-the-art medical and surgical practices, we are also committed to keeping children in their communities healthy so they won’t need our clinical services. Connecticut Children’s Office for Community Child Health is nationally recognized to impact child health, development and well-being, such as housing, transportation, food and nutrition, and family support services.

Advocacy

One of the most effective ways to make our communities better for children, now and in the future, is legislative advocacy. At Connecticut Children’s we support laws and policies that are good for children, such as those that help prevent injuries or improve access to health care.

The Community Health Needs Assessment Guides Us

However, the impact we make on healthcare in Connecticut reaches far beyond our walls and into communities across the state. Connecticut Children’s conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment every three years and reports progress in addressing needs identified in those assessments through annual Community Benefit Reports
