Planning Your Visit

At Connecticut Children’s, providing care beyond imagination begins before families even enter one of our doors. Get acquainted with us and know what to expect before and after you arrive.

Have an Appointment or Stay? Here's What to Bring:

  • Form of ID such as a valid driver's license, passport, Green Card or other. If you are headed to the Medical Center (Hospital) at 282 Washington Street, the first place you'll visit is the welcome desk where you'll need to present your ID so you can receive a badge. This is for the safety and security of everyone.
  • Insurance card. We may ask you to present this again, even if you already have. This is also for your safety and security.
  • Form of payment (for any copays or outstanding balances)
  • Your child's favorite comfort items!

Getting Here, Parking & Staying Here

Your child’s visit will be scheduled at one of several Connecticut Children’s locations. Download Connecticut Children's mobile app, available in the Apple Store or on Google Play. The app helps you find your way within our facilities and has other useful tools for a seamless experience.

Parking varies by location.

  • At most of our Hartford locations, including 282 Washington St, 100 Retreat Ave, and 85 Seymour St, allow extra time for parking before any appointments or procedures due to construction in the city and construction at the hospital as part of our new tower and expansion
  • Prepare to pay for parking on either the street or in our nearby parking garage. Valet is also available during day time hours.
  • At 10 Columbus Blvd in Hartford, there is a parking garage underneath the building. We have created these visual directions to help you.
  • In most of our other locations throughout the state, parking is free and adjacent to the building your child will be seen in.

Here are two helpful ways to get you going:

  • Prepare for your outpatient visit by completing ECheck-In up to three days in advance in MyChart! If your child is under 18, you will do this in your Proxy (parent) account. If your child is 18 or older, they can complete it in their own account.
  • For when you get here, we now offer virtual self-arrival which allows you to skip the front desk. Once you enter the waiting room, just click “I’m Here” in MyChart!

Whether a single outpatient visit or a longer stay at our hospital, there are many ways to make your visit comfortable with the amenities inside our facilities or nearby.

Where to Eat

  • Cafeteria: One World Café on the ground floor of the hospital (282 Washington Street) is open from 6:30 am to 7 pm every day. The Café features a variety of healthy options, including grill, entree and deli stations.
  • Within Walking Distance:
    • Dunkin Donuts: 265 Washington Street (Across the street from the second floor entrance)
    • Starbucks in lobby of 85 Seymour Street (Across the street from the first floor ambulatory entrance)
  • Local Delivery or Pickup:
    • Campus Pizza: 860.246.3663
    • China Garden: 860.727.0011
    • Coyote Flaco: 860.953.1299
    • Parkville Market: 1400 Park Street (many food vendors)

Who's Who on Your Care Team?

During your child’s visit, you’ll meet many members of the care team, including attending doctors, residents, nurses, child-life specialists if your child is staying at the hospital, and many others. In many of the clinical interactions your family will have, we utilize standard uniforms to help you identify the role of our care team member.
